Pre-Settled Status (EU Settlement Scheme)

Granted to applicants who can show residence in the UK before the relevant deadline but who have not yet completed 5 years’ continuous residence.

Who Can Apply?

  • EU/EEA/Swiss citizens
  • Eligible family members
  • Applicants with evidence of UK residence before 31 December 2020

Key Rules

  • Status granted for 5 years
  • Must upgrade to Settled Status once 5 years’ residence completed
  • Time spent outside the UK can break continuity
  • Status is digital only (no physical card)
  • Free of charge
